The one where the bride made her own wedding dress!
Lartington Hall, wedding venue near Barnard Castle is absolutely beautiful, a hidden gem in the heart of the Teesdale countryside – couples getting married here get the benefit of an elegant, country House with exclusive use. It has understated elegance, it’s very own chapel and immaculate gardens perfect for an August wedding - if only the rain stayed away!
This was my first time at Lartington Hall for wedding photography and it quite quickly jumped into the favourites category. Joe & Sarah chose to get married here, despite living in Newcastle and I could see why, there is everything you could dream of when choosing a wedding venue.
Photographing the Sarah’s bridal preparation had an extra element of pressure as it is not every day your bride designs and makes her own dress. How talented is that! The dress, and Sarah were both absolutely stunning and whilst the bridal party enjoyed the build up to the ceremony, Joe, his two brothers (best men) and his dad relaxed on the hall’s full sized billiards table.
The weather was inclement and we had to abandon the first confetti attempt after the ceremony due to rain showers that persisted through the rest of the day with the exception of a glimmer of sunlight at the very end of the day after the speeches leading us to dive outside with everyone for the group photos. We had stolen a short spell before the weather forced us back indoors outside with Joe and Sarah under the cover of Lartington Halls entrance facade, where Joe’s uncle even brought around his recently cleaned car to pose as a wedding car.
Both families were so friendly and made me feel like part of the wedding from the start. The atmosphere throughout the day was just brilliant! Everyone was so happy and seemed to not have a care in the world! I’m so pleased I was chosen by Joe & Sarah to share their day with them and record some lovely moments for two lovely people.
All 4 speeches were not only hilarious but also from the heart, especially Joe’s and his two brothers who each did a speech as joint best men. I can imagine the happiness in the family growing up on the beaches of Beadnell. The celebratory mood pretty much continued right to the first dance and beyond, where we unusually ran a mini photobooth for Sarah, who certainly showed a more flamboyant side to the glowing, emotional bride who earlier walked down the aisle and throwing some pretty impressive poses.
Joe and Sarah, thank you again for having me along to capture your Lartington Hall wedding and best wishes for the future.
